Our Promise to the Community
Our programme aims to capture the spirit of the scout promise, from which there are two
From Clean Up Australia, to visiting nursing homes, or volunteering with Community Kitchens, we strive to give youth a community centred outlook, based on foundations of the scout promise.
On my honour,
I promise to do my best,
To be true to my spiritual beliefs,
To contribute to my community and our world,
To help other people,
And to live by the Scout Law.
On my honour
I promise that I will do my best
To do my duty to my God, and
To the King of Australia,
To help other people,
And to live by the Scout Law.
OUR HISTORY
A Century of Service
1st Mitcham Scout Group was formed in 1921, and moved to its current location on the 20 July 1968,
It was in 1907 that Baden-Powell held an experimental camp on Brownsea to test his ideas which he incorporated in his book “Scouting for Boys”, and it was in 1908 that the book first appeared to fire the imagination of boys and unintentionally start a movement which spread in a few years to all corners of the earth. In 1924, we sent a contingent of scouts to the South Australian Corroboree Camp. It was our Scout's first Big Adventure.

OUR FUTURE
A Century Beyond
Scouting has come a long way in the last one hundred years. It is no longer an organisation exclusive to boys and is attuned to the changing community values. Yet, it continues to follow the core values envisaged by Baden-Powell. This is a worldwide youth movement employing the Scout method, a program of informal education with an emphasis on practical outdoor activities, including camping, hiking, backpacking, arts, and sports. 1st Mitcham Scouts is all about fun, friendships, and 'learning by doing'.
